Mikeldi Atxalandabaso studied singing in his native city Bilbao and was a prizewinner at the Manuel Ausensi International Singing Competition.
Plans this season and beyond include Beppe Pagliacci at Teatro Municipal, Santiago de Chile; Monostatos in Barrie Kosky’s production of Die Zauberflöte with Ivor Bolton, Remendado Carmen and Barbarigo in Verdi I Due Foscari with Pablo Heras-Casado for Teatro Real Madrid; Jonas in Meyerbeer Le Prophéte and Don Curzio Le Nozze di Figaro at Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse; Steuermann in Wagner Der Fliegende Holländer at La Coruña Opera Festival and Rustighello in Donizetti Lucrezia Borgia and Steuermann for Bilbao Opera (ABAO).
Mikeldi made his international debut in 2013 singing Ruodi in Rossini Guillaume Tell for Dutch National Opera and Paolo Carignani in a new production by Pierre Audi and since then highlights have included Ruodi Guglielmo Tell in Graham Vick’s production for Teatro Regio di Torino and Gianandrea Noseda; Beppe Pagliacci in a new production by Yannis Kokkos for Théâtre du Capitol de Toulouse and Tugan Sokiev; Ruodi Guillaume Tell with Opéra de Monte-Carlo and Gianluigi Gelmetti and on tour including Théâtre des Champs- Elysées, Paris.
In his native Spain he appears regularly at Teatro Real, Madrid (Sir Bruno Robertson I Puritani, Bois-Rosé in Meyerbeer Les Huguenots and Lord Cecil Roberto Devereux); Bilbao Opera (Bardolfo Falstaff, Brighella Ariadne auf Naxos, Triquet Eugene Onegin; Goro Madama Butterfly and Nemorino L'elisir d’amore) at La Coruña Opera Festival (Ruodi Guillaume Tell and Duke Rigoletto); Oviedo Opera (Goro, Nemorino and Monostatos) and at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, Madrid (Remendado Carmen, Jorge Marina and Hermann El Dominó Azul)
Concert performances include Guglielmo Tell on a USA tour with Teatro Regio di Torino and Gianandrea Noseda including Detroit, Chicago, Toronto and Carnegie Hall, New York and at the Edinburgh International Festival; Tybalt in Gounod Roméo et Juliette with Michel Plasson at Teatro Real, Madrid; Adrián in Usandizaga La Llama on tour with the Basque Symphony Orchestra (recorded on CD); Tony in Bernstein West Side Story with Vasily Petrenko and Falla La Atlántida with Orquesta Nacional de España and Josep Pons.
